Athletics & Physical Education Please call the Althletics Hotline at 973-602-3602 for daily athletic team schedule updates. The purpose of the Solomon Schechter Day School athletic program is to offer a rewarding athletic experience and to develop the athletic potential of all our students. Recognizing the distinct differences between Middle School and High School students, and the wide range of individual abilities, the athletic program strives to meet everyone’s needs. Solomon Schechter athletes are encouraged to develop a sense of positive sportsmanship, integrity, values, ethics and derech eretz and to display these qualities on and off the field. Development of leadership, personal responsibility and self esteem, and sensitivity and compassion towards others are also desired outcomes of the athletic program.
In the Middle School, where there is a wide range of skill, some students may be playing a sport for the first time while others will have previously played with SSDSEU or on a club team. The middle school has the following teams: Boys’ Soccer Girls’ Soccer Girls’ Tennis Boys’ Basketball Girls’ Basketball Coed Volleyball Coed Swimming Boys’ Baseball Boys’ Tennis Girls’ Softball The ultimate goal of the SSDSEU athletic program is to enable the athletes to mature socially, emotionally, and physically. Most importantly, our athletes learn to accept defeat and victory with equal poise. The success of the athletic program is built on commitment, cooperation, tolerance and enthusiasm between the individual players, coaches, administration, parents and community.
