The Israel Experience Israel – In our Neshama (soul)! From Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade, Solomon Schechter Day School of Essex and Union helps develop in our students a love and support to the State of Israel and Zionism that they will keep in the core of their Jewish identity as adults. It is our believe that students who graduate from a Jewish day school should develop a lifelong relationship with Israel and its people. As such, we offer countless opportunities for our students in all grades to create a connection to the Jewish state. From Israeli dancing, visits by Israeli shlichim (emissaries), and holiday celebrations, among others, our younger students get to experience Israeli culture and tradition. Our High School students explore their relationship to Israel and experience Judaism in an inspiring Jewish atmosphere when they visit Israel twice during High School: Naale, our 10-day Israel trip for 9th graders, offers many group activities aimed at getting to know Israel better, exploring the students' relationship to the country, experiencing Judaism in an inspiring Jewish atmosphere, as well as allowing students to get to know their friends in the grade in a non-academic setting. Students collaborate with their Israeli peers throughout their high school years in various programs. Neshama is the capstone of the Jewish day school experience for our students. Our seniors have the option of spending the second semester of their senior year in Israel and Eastern Europe, developing an even greater sense of Jewish identity.
